Three Poems by Joan Adams Burchell ~copyright~
Is it Spring?
Is spring around the corner - around
that mound of snow?
Is the robin getting ready to come - or sense there's ice - does
it know?
Is the dormant root, under the ground, impatient to stir and rise?
Is the child thinking of skipping rope - when pavement clears
and dries?
Is the ball park open and ready - do I only imagine a cheer?
Is my favourite team counting stats - then, yes - spring is here.

Welcoming Spring
Happy-coloured crocus' smile their
greeting of the spring;
Robins lift a wintered heart every
time they sing.
Dormant buds are ready to split
- release the green, inside;
Leaves are ready to open and stretch
- no longer will they hide.
Spring is the season of rebirth
- everything is new;
Winter struggle is left behind
when we see what spring can do.

Spring
Feel the spring; it's in the air;
New growth and colour everywhere.
Sounds are pleasant to the ear;
A waking world - the spring of
the year.
