Pets and Summer

We must take time to think of our pets
when the weather is humid and hot;
They wear thick coats that haven’t shed
from the winter we’ve now forgot’.

A little time to comb and brush
is such a small thing to do;
Our best friend in any weather
will thank us through and through.

We look at their water-bowl often,
making sure that it’s filled and fresh;
If the tables were turned, do we not think
that our pet would do any less?

If we are sad, they comfort us;
give smiles and kisses to cheer.
They welcome us when we’ve been away -
we know their love is sincere.

We can’t take their love for granted -
to have a pet is a gift;
It’s up to us to return that love
in ways that protect and lift.

Out come the combs and brushes -
it’s ‘together time’ for two;
Such a small thing builds loving trust
that they aren’t forgotten by you.

Tails will wag; they stand so still -
enjoying each little touch;
When we are finished, my dog and I hug -
a little thing means so much!
