The Perennial Story
A tiny bunch of violets was tangled
in a root;
I carefully separated the two -
oh, what precious loot.
Trading perennials is so much fun
and it doesn't cost a dime;
Sharing colour and favourite plants
breeds stories for all time.
It's a thrill for those who receive
them, a thrill for those who give;
And crowded gems stretch and breathe
with a new place to live.
Why throw plants out when you thin
them; they might cheer someone's day.
"This one is from my neighbour,"
is what they'll proudly say.
