Quilt of the Field

Queen Anne's lace and purple loosestrife
form a border on the "quilt of the field";
It's tall and stately, as nature intended -
to the farmer did not yield.

The centre of the quilt is yellow-buttercups
and clover - pink and white;
A picture to see and warm as can be -
with green embroidered just right.

Across the farmer's split-rail fence,
another quilt meets the eye;
His crops of yellow, beige and green
form a contrast, so nearby.

Nature's "Nine-Patch" blocks, so even -
summer has sown her best.
It surely is showing a quilter who's sewing -
the ultimate, artistic test.
